Frequently asked questions about services
Most towns require a permit, which involves taking your Plat of Survey and our contract to the village to fill out a form to obtain the permit. There is usually a fee when applying, which is the homeowner’s responsibility. However, if you are in an unincorporated area, you may not require a permit. It is recommended that you check with your local authorities to confirm. Once our paving contractors team receives the permit, we can schedule your project. The permit should be displayed on a window or any visible location for the inspector to see. Please provide a picture or copy of the permit to the project coordinator.
Usually, there are two inspections. The first inspection is scheduled on the first day when the old driveway is removed and any necessary preparation is done. Premier Paving contractors team will call for the first base inspection, and the inspector will come out to ensure that the gravel is at the proper grade and has been compacted correctly. The second inspection is after the asphalt paving, to ensure that the work is being done properly.
We take all precautions to ensure proper positive pitch away from the house and garage, following the natural grade of the property. If there are problematic areas, our paving contractors crew will discuss them with the homeowner.
To ensure a smooth transition from your garage to your newly installed driveway, it is recommended that your garage door be open and accessible during asphalt paving service. For this purpose, we require approximately 6-8 feet of space from your garage door. In case you are not home, leaving your garage door opener or providing us with the code to the garage is what most customers usually do.
During the installation process, our employees will need a few feet on each side of the driveway to set and hand-tamp the edges properly. We will be careful not to damage any surrounding landscaping.
Once the driveway is completed, please avoid parking in the same spot on the driveway, turning tires while stopped, or having any sharp objects in the same spot (e.g. motorcycle kickstand, jacks, trailer jacks, etc.). These actions can cause divots, particularly in the hot summer months.
Relocating and replacing sprinkler heads are not included in the pricing. Premier Paving Contractors encourage homeowners to call their local sprinkler company if there is an extension to the driveway and the sprinkler will be affected, and they can coordinate with them.
Yes, for the first two years, driveway sealcoating service is essential. The first time should be approximately 90 days after asphalt paving to ensure proper curing time and the following year. After that, the driveway should be seal-coated every other year. If sealcoating is not maintained, the driveway may crack and not last as long as it should.
Yes, the asphalt is hand tamped at sidewalks, garages, concrete slabs, curbs, brick pavers, etc. If surfaces are below or higher than the proper grade, homeowners will be notified prior to asphalt paving service to avoid tripping hazards.
